Are you ready for a healthy Halloween treat, maybe even some witch magic? Perhaps a Roasted Pumpkin and Chocolate Potion to unlock all the gooey and creepy treats? If so, try this quick, and beautiful Halloween treat that allows you to control ingredients.
Roasting a pumpkin is simple and easy, you don’t even have to peel it. If you’d like to learn how, read how to cook pumpkin: four ways by Food Above Gold.
If roasted pumpkin is not an option, organic pumpkin puree will work just as fine. Personally, I prefer mashed roasted pumpkin for its texture and homemade chocolate pudding for better ingredients. You can make chocolate pudding yourself with whole cow or goat milk or a nut milk for a dairy-free version or use a store-bought one.
A Healthy Halloween Treat Is Easy (And Beautiful!)
Halloween time with all the candy that it brings can be tricky for parents, no pun intended. It’s full of sugar, sweetness, artificial colors, and preservatives. So, how do we let our kids enjoy the festivities without consuming all the artificial stuff? Well, we provide better options, a homemade healthy Halloween treat, that is just as appealing! This roasted pumpkin and chocolate potion definitely belongs on the healthy Halloween treats table. It looks magical and you can even allow the little hands to put the spell on! (That make it taste even better!)
Use small jars or glasses you may have around to serve it. I like the shape of these baby food jars for this recipe best.
- 1 cup chocolate pudding, preferably homemade
- 1 cup roasted pumpkin, mashed; or 1 cup organic pumpkin puree
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp coconut sugar
- 1 tbsp shaved chocolate
- In a small bowl, season pumpkin with cinnamon and coconut sugar. Stir well.
- Using a small spoon, fill a glass jar ⅓ full with chocolate pudding then add enough pumpkin to “almost fill the jar”. Leave about ½ inch of room at the top. Using a toothpick or a wood skewer, rub the pumpkin portion against the wall of the jar, in a up-and-down motion to create a blur, potion looking mix. Top off with chocolate pudding and sprinkle with shaved chocolate.
- Serve cold!
